We all know that short videos are taking over the internet and you as an author should take advantage of that. Being part of bookstagram and booktok is a must and now that you decided to take your career to the next level, here are 5 video ideas to promote your book.
1- Reading Excerpt
How many times have you added a book to your tbr because you read a random quote on tiktok? I'm guilty of that myself. Share a short, compelling excerpt from your book to give viewers a taste of your writing style and the story's tone. Make sure it's a gripping or emotional passage that leaves the audience wanting more.
2- Book tropes
Most readers have a set of tropes they are familiar with and are looking for in their next read, so showcasing what they will find in your book is a good way to attract people. Don't be afraid of being cliche and unoriginal, not everybody is looking for a mind-blowing book to read but maybe just something they are sure to enjoy.
3- Compare your book to others in your genre
When Pablo Picasso said " Good artists borrow, great artists steal " he meant that you should be proud that some aspects of your book are similar to others in your genre. For example, if you write fantasy It would be good to tell your audience that if they enjoyed the ACOTAR series by Sarah J. Mass they might enjoy yours as well. Just think about yourself, how many times have you read a whole book series and at the end of it, you couldn't wait to find something similar to read next?
4- Share your creative process
Readers are curious creature. We all wanna know how our favorite author felt when they wrote that heart breaking scene. Show your potential readers that you're human as well and the feelings you are experiencing while writing they might experience as well.
5- Describe your characters
Showcase who your audience is going to read about. Discuss their backgrounds, motivations, and how they fit into the overall story. This can help potential readers get to know the characters and become more invested in the book.
